Response to Course Material 10/8/11
I was excited that we finally started reading something this week, because I feel like we have done a lot of practice prompts, and discussion of analysis, and writing introductions, but we havent actually analyzed or worked on a piece as a class, so I feel that it's sort of difficult. I have continued to refine my essay writing/organizing skills, and im excited for us to begin to look deeper into the American Dream, which seems like a pretty meaning saturated piece of work. It will be nice to understand that play a little better.

You did a nice job of pointing to what we have done recently in class. I feel that you need to expand on how your writing skills have developed since the past few weeks. Have different prompts enhanced the scope of your writing? Have the peer reviews been beneficial? What have you learned from gaining the opinions of others on your work and reflecting on your flaws?
ReplyDeleteYou may even want to talk about your expectations of the novel "The American Dream". Do you expect to find higher level reading? Do you feel it will enhance your reading skills to aid your growth as a mature and critical reader? Overall, your post seems to be too short to accomplish your reflection on all that we have done since your last post in this category. I would highly recommend looking back on your notes and such for pertinent information.
I like how you described "The American Dream" as "meaning saturated". Nice diction choice! I'm also glad we finally started to read something. While the DIDLS worksheets were a little tedious, they definitely gave us a good foundation for analyzing actual works of literature. I use the skills I learned in our first few weeks when analyzing, and I think it's helpful!
ReplyDeleteWhat do you is difficult, that we haven't analyzed works yet? did yopu not like the practice prompts, writing, etc that we did? I found them useful ,and hope we can apply them to the works we do analyze. The American Dream is a "saturated" piece, that's why we read it, because it's AP Lit. We can expect more of "saturated" works. Isn't that what you want?
