Response to Course Material 11/20

I really enjoyed watching and then reading Death of a Salesman. I felt that especially for this play, there is so much to be gained by watching it, and understanding the emotional subtext and story, which is easy to overlook when looking at it from such a purely academic standpoint, which we do in class discussions. I also just enjoyed the play. The most recent in class essay about the two poems and protecting innocence went fairly well i thing, but i suppose ill have to wait to be sure. I dont think that the individual presentations did much for me in really emphasizing the important aspects of each era of literature,  but that isn't a huge deal as we have all learned them before.

  1. I agree with what you said about watching DOS; I gained a lot from watching the movie before reading the book because I understood the relationships better and was then able to analyze them in the book more thoroughly after I understood the broad picture. I'm glad you think your essay went well..because mine was terrible. Hopefully we get the chance to write another one soon so I can redeem myself.

  2. The movie for DOS didn't do much for me. Perhaps because I missed one day and slept through the other... however it seemed like a good enough movie. I sort of regret not paying much attention to it now that both your and ginger have given it rave reviews. Those poems were both pretty enjoyable, their meanings complemented each other nicely and gave different view points.

  4. I also just like Death of a Salesman, and agree that there's definitely something to be gained from actually watching it. With the essay... I suppose they are helpful, they're just so tedious to write. This one did seem better than the last, though!
